linen kilt progress

A few weeks ago I decided I needed to knit a skirt. Right. Now.

I've been wanting to knit in linen again, so I started the linen kilt skirt from Knit 2 Together. (There are some great patterns in this book).

I've finished the body of the skirt and just need to pick up for the front ruffle.

Oh, and line the thing cause it's a bit sheer and no one needs to see my granny pants.

Feet+linen

Once I get the kid off my knitting that is.

Oh, and if you feel like brightening up your living space with some fab new pillows or need a great new tote, go get yourself some at 100% philistine made!

A small quilt

A friend at work just brought a little girl home to join their family. I decided she needed a small girly-girl quilt.

Sq2

Since the little one's dad loves to wear Hawaiian shirts, I used some of Hawaiian fabric I got from Nova (thanks Nova!).

The other fabrics are a mix solids, Amy Butler, Heather Ross, and Heather Bailey fabrics.

The quilting is simple , but I really like it.

Hooray for little girls!

summertime

I've been distracted. There's too much of this

and this

to get any real knitting done.

I started Veronik Avery's corset cover from Knitting Classic Style, but let's face it, with the my summer schedule, the finished project may take awhile.

Hope you're enjoying some beautiful weather!

I knit the same baby sweater again and again

While I love this pattern (placket sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts), it seems like I'm always knitting this damn sweater. Too much of a good thing perhaps. I need to break up with this pattern for awhile.

Baby
Yarn: Tatamy Tweed in pumpkin (my favorite cotton/acrylic blend)
And, of course, some vintage buttons from the stash.

a small quilt

Last night I stayed up late to finish a small quilt for a friend. I so pleased with the result. It's nothing fancy, but the colors are very pretty.
Quilt

The fabrics are a from a fat quarter pack I wrestled away from Ashley at Spool.

I think that they are damn pretty together with the white.
Quilt2

The backing is just some Kona Cotton in an aqua color. But look at those mitered edges. Perfect! Yay me!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program of baby knitting. Le sigh.

knitting and other things in Ireland

I thought I would share a few shots from the trip. We had an extremely lovely time in Ireland. We saw lots of old things (which I love) and were also fortunate to meet up with friends since I was there for a conference. The Ls had a great time. Here's the littlest one riding a stone lion at the hotel.

Hotel
But the trip was not without its ironies. It was confirmed that the universal parking gods hate me. They hate me good.

Shit
It rained a lot, we ate fish + chips with friends

Lunch and saw the sites (newgrange)

And I finished yet another baby sweater.

knitting overseas

Since the family and I are in Ireland, I am knitting socks. Doesn't everyone knit socks while traveling?

Sock I using Kraemer Yarn's Saucon Sock. Totally wool-free. Very nice, albeit a bit scratchy. The pattern is the Anna sock pattern from Rowan 40. I cast on 72 stitches and plan some calf decreases.

See you again when we get home!

the quilt...she is done

Finally, after many, many mistakes (please don't look too closely), the quilt is finished.

Quilt1
I didn't use a pattern. Is there a name for this pattern?
Quilt3

The small squares are 4" and the strips are all 1-1/2" wide. The finished product is large enough to fit on our queen-size bed.

I used Sturbridge Village reproduction fabric, some vintage fabric, and some odds and ends I had lying around. The back is robins egg blue and the binding is grass green. Quilt4

I hand-sewed the binding. Look, this one corner is perfect!Quilt2

I have other quilts in mind but on a much, much smaller scale!
